What If Depression Is Form Of Psychological Rite Of Passage? | Amber Hawken Mindfulness Based CBT | YouTube Vlog

This stems from my very own experience of depression.

This is Amber the humans speaking.

In light of the increase in depression given the world at present, R U OK Day, and Womens Health Week I wanted to offer my thoughts on depression and how I believe, it’s quite a powerful evolutionary process.

Most ancient civilisations have a rite of passage where a member of the tribe/family/clan will head into a physical journey or process that takes them on a mental, emotional or spiritual ‘void’.

During this journey, there is a liminal space the participant enters into.

The word “liminal” comes from the Latin root, limen, which means “threshold.” The liminal space is the “crossing over” space – a space where you have left something behind, yet you are not yet fully in something else. It’s a transition space. It’s a space between the ‘what was’ and the ‘next.’ It is a place of transition, a season of waiting, and not knowing.

Liminal space is where all transformation takes place, if we learn to wait and let it form us.

What if depression is a form of Psychological Rite Of Passage?

I’d love to hear your thoughts: if you have ever experienced a powerful shift when trusting the process or if this has given you a sense of relief that those dark times are an important process that we can trust.
